How can we treat Sudden Cardiac Arrest?
We cannot always prevent sudden cardiac arrest from occurring but having an automated external defibrillator (AED) on site to use in the event of an emergency greatly increases a victim’s chance of survival. Defibrillation with an AED provides an electrical shock needed to restore a heart to its normal heart rhythm. Having AEDs in public and private sectors, health clubs, schools, restaurants, at athletic events and places where people work are becoming very common place. States, cities and towns are instilling legislation requiring businesses and places where people gather to have AEDs on site. More and more states are jumping onboard because AEDs save lives. The American Red Cross believes automated external defibrillators could save more than 50,000 Americans each year with the use of AEDs.
